ORGANIC GARDENER MAGAZINE:
Organic Gardener Magazine is an ABC Publication. Quark files were supplied by the ABC to show the layout and images were supplied also as RGB Jpegs. Each cover used a Spot colour which varied.
My job was to check the layout and convert all images to CMYK Tiff files and then to postscript and prepare the whole magazine for print. No work was done on the typography as per the ABC's instructions.

THE SADDLE CLUB MAGAZINE:
The Saddle Club Magazine was something I worked on for about two years. Our team was responsible for all layouts - adhereing to a Style Guide supplied by the ABC. It's a tween magazine so lots of pinks and bright 'girly' colours and patterns were used throughout. As well as layout and concept work for specific stories I was also in charge of the prepress and creating Hi-Res PDFs for print - supplied on DVDs for the ABC and the printer. Dye cuts were also supplied on a fairly regular basis for things like lip gloss and plastic jewellry. The front cover would usually take up a full day. Spot colours were used on every front cover - which would be proofed and checked before sending.

SADDLE CLUB SCRAPBOOKING MAGAZINE:
These layouts are from The Saddle Club Scrapbooking Magazine. This ran for about six months and was designed by our department specifically for scrapbooking. We were supplied with photos taken by the staff at ABC and were of poor quality in terms of colour and resolution so a large amount of time was taken up with trying to make the images supplied work in the various layouts ie colour correction, sharpness, contrast, deep etching etc
FUNTIME WITH FRIENDS MAGAZINE:
Magazine designed to suit both children and parents. Initially it was just for small children but to make it more marketable we introduced a parents section. This publication was very fun to put together - lots of puzzles and interactive pages for children to enjoy featuring characters such as The Wiggles, Maisy, Angelina Ballerina, Bob the Builder, Miffy and more. We used style guides for specific characters as supplied to us. This meant that whilst being creative and fun, you still had to work within boundaries ie logo size, character placement etc The parents section used alot of white space while still incorporating bright colours to tie in with the kid section and cover.
Designing the cover could take up to 2-3 days as it would go back and forward to the ABC, Sinnott Bros and the various companies.
